The journey of 4 months filled with sleepless nights and fighting against the odds, ended with one of the highest points in life so far. I felt an adrenaline rush like no other right after I received communication over mail that our team has been selected as one of the Global Finalists and made it to the top 15 teams, out of 30,000+ participants, in YES BANK Transformation Series 2018.
Moreover, our team being adjudged as “Y-star Top Tier Winner” and “Campus Ace Winner” as well for providing one of the best solutions in the initial rounds, made the feeling even more joyous. The most special and cherishing moment for us was finishing the presentation submission while on the train and submitting it right before the deadline when the clock struck 12 at midnight.
In the initial rounds, we worked on a case study by Shell, which involved providing Smart Solutions for Improving Urban Air Quality, which was awarded as the best submission nationally. Thereafter, for the Finale round, we provided innovative ideas to “Invest India” on “Increasing B2C exports from India in the MSME space through e-Commerce“.
As a part of this competition, we conducted lots of quantitative and qualitative analysis, primary and secondary research, and looked at previous year submissions of winning teams to arrive at the most feasible and scalable solution. The most challenging phase was to crack the initial Campus Round as it involved working on multiple case competitions with nearly the same deadlines.
Our team of 3 has attained victory in multiple competitions, hence, we connected well and shared a critical view of ideas generated. We had moments of conflicts between us, however, we ended up generating even more robust and feasible solutions by having a healthy discussion among ourselves post conflicts. We used to jot down all the ideas generated individually, discussed each one of them, strike out the ones that demand less attention and finally match our solutions to the objectives of the problem statement so that we don’t leave any stone unturned and cover every aspect of it.
Our experience from the previous edition of this competition definitely helped us to clear the initial rounds as we were more aware this time around on how to present the solutions and what was expected from the solution. We had people from diverse backgrounds in our team which brings in different strengths and perspectives to the table.
There were 15 teams who made it to the Grand Finale of Yes Bank Transformation Series 2018, out of 30,000+ participants. The team from IIM Bangalore were our toughest competitor as they presented a 360-degree solution to the problem statement which was greatly applauded by the judges and other participants during their presentation.
YES BANK Transformation Series 2018 would definitely gain the top spot among other competitions I have participated in, in terms of judgement quality, organization, and framing. The Finale Jury comprised of prominent leaders who put forward an unbiased viewpoint and critical judgement of the solutions presented. We experienced amazing hospitality from the organizers throughout the Grand Finale in Mumbai. YES BANK provided us with one of the best experiences and memories to carry ahead!
The competition made us even more sacrosanct with deadlines and provided with a taste of working on real-time projects over a period of time. It helped me in generating interest in areas of Government Consulting and Smart Solutions (AI/ML). Finally, the biggest learning for me has been that even an Underdog can leave behind a Legacy to carry forward by thriving in the most competitive environment.
